Crypto Day Trading

Are you into crypto day trading? Today’s markets are much more volatile than before, allowing more gains and losses, especially for day traders. Thanks to many new opportunities, this trading strategy is becoming exceedingly popular for them. With the rise of cryptocurrencies, many brokers have implemented them on their platforms.

This increases their liquidity, accessibility, and trading strategies. Recently, many traders have turned to cryptocurrencies for day trading. With the right tools, a small percentage find it profitable. Here is everything you need to know about day trading cryptocurrencies.

Day Trading Crypto

Crypto day trading requires constant information about market conditions, continuous education, and plenty of technical knowledge.

The tools below are complementary and essential for a successful day trading career, especially in a volatile crypto market. Some of them will also apply to day trading stocks and other assets.

Scalping

Scalping is a trading strategy that looks to profit from small price movements. Scalpers focus on highly liquid cryptos like Bitcoin or Ethereum, using short timeframes (1-5 minute charts) to identify quick entry and exit points.

They employ technical indicators such as RSI, MACD, and Bollinger Bands for rapid decision-making.

Breakout Trading

Breakout trading involves finding support and resistance zones and entering trades when the price breaks these levels.

Day traders watch for price consolidation patterns like triangles or rectangles, then capitalize on the strong price movement.

Momentum Trading

Thanks to technical indicators and volume, momentum traders identify and capitalize on strong price trends. Investors enter into trades in the direction of the momentum, aiming to ride the wave of price movement.

This strategy works well with established cryptocurrencies and shitcoins. The latter can be risky but can generate huge returns in short timeframes.

Range Trading

Range trading focuses on cryptocurrency trading between consistent support and resistance levels. Traders buy near the lower support and sell near the upper resistance, but also watch for potential breakouts, which can signal the end of a range-bound period.

They use technical indicators like Bollinger Bands or RSI to confirm overbought or oversold conditions at range extremes. This strategy works well sideways or by consolidating markets.

News-Based Trading

Traders monitor news sources, social media platforms, and official cryptocurrency project channels for breaking developments such as regulatory changes, partnerships, technological updates, or major adoptions. A great example is the big investment advisors’ creation of BTC or ETH ETFs.

Crypto Day Trading Platforms

Crypto.com

Crypto.com offers strike options and straightforward contracts that allow traders to predict whether an asset will exceed a certain price by a specific time. The platform also offers other cryptocurrencies, but options aren’t a feature.

Thankfully, Crypto.com is available in 49 states and US territories. Of all places, it is unavailable in NY due to regulatory issues.

BYDFi (Bityard)

BYDFi operates under regulatory oversight in several countries, including the US, ensuring compliance with strict standards.

They have been recognized as one of the best crypto exchanges in the country in 2025.

Binance

Binance offers European-style options, which can only be exercised on the expiration date (10-minute, 30-minute, 1-hour, 8-hour, and 1-day options). The platform is very user-friendly and intuitive.

Despite being very attractive for investors, Binance’s US platform (Binance.US) isn’t available in every US state, doesn’t offer futures trading, debit card purchases, or withdrawals, and comes with higher fees. Currently, it isn’t the best option if you’re in the US.

Bybit, Delta Exchange, and OKX

Bybit, Delta Exchange, and OKX offer European-style cash-settled options for BTC and ETH (minimum order size of 0.01 BTC or ETH). Unfortunately, these platforms aren’t available at all in the US.

Deribit

Deribit is one of the largest and most recognized crypto derivatives exchanges. The platform specializes in options and futures trading for BTC, ETH, Solana (SOL), Ripple (XRP), and Polygon (MATIC).

SOL, XRP, and MATIC were only added in March 2024, so more coins may be added eventually. Derbit only offers European-style options and isn’t available in the US.

Other Crypto Day Trading Platforms

There are dozens of other cryptocurrencies, such as Coinbase, Kraken, KuCoin, and FTX. They may not offer options trading presently, but it remains possible to day trade thanks to all the coins they offer.

When you pick a platform, look for advanced trading features such as order types, technical indicators, and chart patterns. Once your platform and strategy are set up, it’s time to select which cryptocurrencies to trade.

Crypto Day Trading Suggestions

Every day, dozens of cryptocurrencies are created and removed. Real creators lead some with a plan for the coin. Others are what we call shitcoins.

Their creators hype the coin, the price increases, and they pull the rug (withdraw the funds, and the coin loses almost all its value. When crypto day trading, you can stick to the established coins or attempt lesser-known ones. Here’s what you need to look for.

  • Volatility – Higher volatility creates more trading opportunities
  • Liquidity – High liquidity allows for easy entry/exit of positions
  • Trading volume – Higher volume typically means tighter spreads
  • Exchange availability – Being listed on major exchanges increases accessibility
  • News/developments – Coins with active development can see more price action

Many traders focus on major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana because they are available on virtually every platform, and their average trading volume is in the billions. Unlike major stock indexes, their price can fluctuate by 1-10% daily, sometimes even more.

If you think this is volatile, wait until you see small cryptocurrencies that experience major events or celebrity endorsements. An excellent example is Dogecoin. Its price increased by nearly 1000% in a few days when Elon Musk first mentioned it.

Crypto Day Trading Scams

Cryptocurrency scams are very common, and traders must remain vigilant. Here are a few things to look out for.

  • Ponzi schemes: Scammers promise high investment returns but use money from new investors to pay earlier investors.
  • Pump and dump schemes: Fraudsters artificially inflate the price of a cryptocurrency before selling their holdings, causing the price to crash.
  • Fake ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings): Scammers create fraudulent new cryptocurrencies or hype existing ones, then disappear with investors’ money.
  • Rug pulls: Developers abandon a project and run away with investor funds after pumping the price.

If you’re one of the first to invest in these scams and time your exit perfectly, you can earn a good return. Unfortunately, this isn’t true for most investors or those who day trade crypto.

Final Thoughts on Crypto Day Trading

To conclude, crypto day trading is much more difficult than with stocks. This industry is much more volatile and filled with fraudsters because it remains unregulated. To succeed, traders must constantly monitor the news and social media networks and use various day trading techniques. Once a strategy is in place, a secure crypto platform must be chosen. Many are available in the US, but few offer option trading. Do you have what it takes to become a crypto millionaire?
