Golf Stocks

Are you looking for a list of golf stocks? Is golf your favorite sport, and do you want a piece in your portfolio? It is a possibility, thanks to the various golf stocks available. The sport peaked in 2000, and its popularity declined until the pandemic hit in 2020.

Since then, its popularity has resurged and has been growing ever since. On and off-course participation has been increasing and hitting new yearly highs.

Is this trend here to stay, and will golf companies capitalize on it? Here is everything you need to know about the sport and the corresponding companies trading on US stock exchanges.

Golf Course

In the 1990s, several factors led to increased golf participation:

  • Construction: Between 1995 and 2000, approximately 350 new golf courses were built annually, peaking at 399 in 2000. This made gold more accessible.
  • Economic factors: There was strong growth in the 1990s, which gave more disposable income to spend on leisure activities like golf. Economic growth ended during the dot-com crash.
  • The “Tiger Woods Effect”: Tiger Woods’s rise in the late 90s brought unprecedented attention and excitement to the sport. Boomers were inspired because golf is a no-contact sport with fewer injury concerns.

By 2000, golfers had grown to over 28M, up from 24.7M in 1995. However, this peak was short-lived.

2020 - Present

During the COVID pandemic, golf’s popularity resurged. This surge was due to people seeking safe outdoor activities that allowed for social distancing. During this period, golf equipment sales also boomed.

After the pandemic, golf continued to grow. The sport has seen over 2M more participants since pre-pandemic times. In 2023, a record number of rounds was played, surpassing the 2021 record. A notable increase was seen among juniors (the average age of golfers has decreased) and off-course participants (in alternative forms like Topgolf).

The younger generations aren’t the only ones contributing to the sport’s growth. Gen Z and Millennials also participate in the development, drawn by golf’s mental health benefits and social aspects. What does that mean for golf stocks?

Netflix and Full Swing

Many sports leagues have turned to Netflix and other streaming platforms to increase their viewership, social media engagement, and overall interest in the sport.

The PGA made no exception with its Netflix collaboration for its docuseries “Full Swing”. The show’s release led to an increase in the PGA Tour’s viewership domestically and internationally.

According to one report, 63% of viewers began tuning into the PGA Tour just two months after the show’s debut.

Furthermore, many established and emerging golfers saw major growth in their social media following the show’s release. Its success led to a second season, and the sport hopes it will bring even more interest.

Best Golf Stocks 2026

As we can see, golf is more popular than ever. How does this translate in the stock market? Since 2020, popularity has increased, translating to golf stocks reaching all-time highs. Let’s take a look at a golf stocks list.

Acushnet Holdings Corp (NYSE: GOLF)

First on our golf stocks list is Acushnet. They design, develop, manufacture, and distribute performance-driven golf products for the dedicated golfer.

It operates prestigious golf brands such as Titleist, FootJoy, Vokey Design, Scotty Cameron, Club Glove, KJUS, and Pinnacle. Each operates a different premium aspect of the game, allowing Acushnet to maintain leadership positions across major golf equipment and golf wear categories. Golf balls and gloves represent 40% of net sales, while clubs, shoes, apparel, and gear represent 60%.

Are you ready for some impressive numbers? Acushnet operates three state-of-the-art golf ball manufacturing facilities, producing over 1 million golf balls daily. That’s not all. The company holds more than 1600 golf ball patents. As a result, its Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls maintain around 75% usage among touring professionals worldwide.

Financially, Acushnet has been performing very well. Acushnet anticipates continued growth and new product launches (25th anniversary of its Pro V1 golf ball series). It is a must-have stock in the golf industry.

Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp (NYSE: MODG)

Earlier in this golf stocks article, I mentioned that off-course alternatives like Topgolf were increasing in popularity during the pandemic. The company also designs, manufactures, and sells premium golf equipment, including clubs, balls, and accessories.

One of its key brands, Callaway Golf, is a leader in golf clubs, particularly drivers and irons, and has a significant presence in the golf ball market. Its Odyssey brand is also the #1 putter brand in golf.

In recent years, Topgolf has been heavily investing in the golf industry. As a result, revenues grew, and expectations were exceeded. However, the company has significant debt.

This has negatively impacted Topgolf’s stock price and has triggered cost-saving measures. Its management is confident it can return to growth and reduce debt in the coming quarters.

Unfortunately, the stock is trading near an all-time low, but this presents a good buying opportunity since the stock has significant upside.

Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS)

Dick’s is present in the golf industry thanks to its stores (the largest sporting goods retailer in the US) and its specialty brand, Golf Galaxy, which it acquired in 2007.

The company operates over 100 Golf Galaxy stores selling fitting bays, golf course simulators, indoor driving ranges, on-site putting greens, workshops, lessons, and swing analysis.

It is a performance and apparel center. Additionally, Top-Flite, Walter Hagen, Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, Cobra, Cleveland, PING, Titleist, Nike Golf, Adidas, and FootJoy products are sold in Golf Galaxy and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores.

DKS stock has been growing thanks to its golfing business and store sales. Despite global challenges in the retail sector, it is taking market share from its competitors thanks to its various offerings.

Final Thoughts on Golf Stocks

To conclude, golf has grown in popularity again after nearly 20 years of decreasing viewership. The sport’s athletes, merchandise, and equipment are more popular than ever, and golf stocks are also increasing in activity.

Thanks to the COVID pandemic and Netflix’s coverage with its ‘’Full Swing’’ show, golf generates plenty of interest across many generations.

I’m not a big golf fan, but I am seeing and hearing more and more people talk about the sport, which can only drive its sales and coverage to new levels.
